"There is absolutely no substitute for the best. Good food cannot be made of inferior ingredients masked with high flavor. It is true thrift to use the best ingredients available and to waste nothing." - James Beard
Several years ago, I convinced my wife Heidi to let me keep two bee hives in our yard. Little did we know what those two hives would turn into. In one year, those two hives had become 27. Having a surplus of honey and a love of craft brewing led me to try making my first batch of mead. In 2014 Humboldt Honey Wine became just the sixth licensed commercial Meadery in the state of California. We began selling our wines at the Farmers Market in Arcata, California the following year. What started out as a way of supporting my bee hobby has grown into a full time passion. In early 2016 we were voted "Best Wine" on the North Coast in the Times Standard's Readers Choice Awards. Tragedy struck on June 3, 2016 when a fire in an adjacent warehouse swept through our winery. It was a complete loss. With the support of the community and family, we rebuilt bigger and better then before. Our new location boasts a tasting room, gift shop and our production area. We hope to open our restaurant in the early spring of 2017. We hope you enjoy your visitwith us and come again soon.
